portraiture

application
i think its the creation of a portrait taken to represent a person in most cases the shoot would be taken to show a emotion the person is expressing in different scenarios most photographers trys to capture an emotion that wasn't put on for the camera.
the portraits first created were of people rich and powerful expressing there power and the photo would have been influenced by how the person wanted to look rather than during the 60s portraits went in another direction because the photographer were trying to catching their people in moments when they are least prepared which showed a new side to portraits.
Diane Arbus focused her time on taken images of the unhappy side of life with portrait of dull face expressions, people at eases she was trying to show a real side of people not the put on face for the photo and he got recognized for it the family Matthaei ask her to take a family portrait which had happened every year in for the family and Diane's work didn't show smiles it was dull faces.

context
portraits are now used in every day life to aware a person about something for example company's use them to advertise on bill boards, posters, signs leaflets and one of the bigger uses of portraits is the Internet displaying them on practically every web site you go on and in other cases portraits and used for identity purposes like money has the queens head as well as bank notes and business use them to brand stuff so people are aware that its from there company

thechniques
in the start the portraits being created were of kings and queen which meant they choose the scene in which the shoot was going to taken how they look and what the portrait is meant to show for example to show the power of the person they would wear loads of gold and a crown and all that to influence the portrait but during the 60s photographers begain to just walk the street trying to get the right image

photo journalism

Application
Henti Catier Bresson was a very talent photo journalist also known as the god father of photo journalism he coined the term " the decisive moment" because the photos he captured were so precised down to the right second he all ways took the shoot at the right time never to soon or too late which showed a true meaning for the photo which was so apparent from his work, his first well known photo was taken in 1933 another key date is the date the leica camera was realised which was 1935
Robert Capa was the worlds greatest war journalist that ended up a celebrity because of his work he took a photo during the spainish civil war of a man getting shoot in 1936 he was known for droping in and out of war he also took a number of shoots of the world war 2 the most known photo's from that where down to him being on one of the first boats that landed on the beach he managed to take 4 films worth of photo but whilst they were being processed three and a half of them got destroyed.

Context
photo journalism was used it the early years in news papers to let people know about things and event for example talking about the war. it slowly progrested into a much large range of uses through out the years photo journalism is now seen every where for example on newspapers, magazines
Techniques
the leica camera was a big brake through I'm camera equipment due to being rather compact which helped him taking shoot because it was much easier to carry around and pull up quicker to get the precised photo and it was a very quite camera which benefited the user because it didn't distract any thing during a shoot being taken but the most importation thing about the camera was that it was the first camera with the eye lence on the left which mean one eye was able to free look around instead of cameras before then having the eye lence in the middle which meant you were only able to see through the lence and not see from your own eyes due to the size of the cameras as well
